AI Training South Africa: A Simple AI Readiness Assessment for SMMEs

Before you roll out AI training, do a quick readiness check. Not to delay, just to avoid predictable failures.

AI readiness assessment (SMME)

Score each from 1–5 (1 being lowest and 5 being the highest):

1) Workflow clarity: Do we know the top 3 workflows AI should improve?
2) Leadership commitment: Will the owner/manager insist on adoption?
3) Tools access: Do staff have access to AI tools and internet?
4) Documentation culture: Are we willing to build templates and SOPs?
5) Safe-use awareness: Do we understand what not to share?
6) Time allocation: Do we have 30–60 minutes per week per learner?
7) Storage: Do we have a place to store templates centrally?
8) Review habits: Will outputs be checked before sending?

If your score is low, don’t panic. Start with one workflow, one template, one win.
